Salem carriage houses on display

WALKING TOUR: The Hidden Gems of Salem Carriage House Walking Tour will be held Saturday, with tours starting at 9 a.m. and the last tour departing 3 p.m. People will see 10 carriage houses.

POP SHOP AWARDS: The Mahoning County Pop Shop over the past 19 years has awarded $500 each to 51 young people. These young people qualify for this award by volunteering four hours in the Pop Shop during the Canfield Fair for a minimum of three years.

This year’s recipients include Andrea Campean, a South Range High School graduate who will attend Eastern Gateway Community College; Alaina Courtwright, South Range High School, Youngstown State University; Abi Downs, West Branch High School, The Ohio State University at Norwalk; Katelin Downs, West Branch High School, OSU at Norwalk; Madison Foley, Austintown Fitch High School, YSU; and Jack Carney, Columbiana High School, Kent State University at Salem.

CENTER GOES VIRTUAL: The English Center of Youngstown, a nonprofit, charitable organization that has provided free English classes to non-native speakers in the Mahoning Valley for more than 100 years, has transitioned from in-person classes to the virtual classroom.

For the past seven years, the English Center had been housed at 1119 Elm St., Youngstown.

Non-native speaking adults wanting to take free English language classes can register online at www.englishcenter youngstown.com. Basic, intermediate, proficient and advanced classes will run until May.
