Pool fundraiser canceled

SUMMER SIZZLER CANCELED: The Hubbard Pool annual Summer Sizzler fundraiser event has been canceled for this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will return for summer 2021.

GROUP TO MEET: The Tri-State Marine Corps League Detachment 494 will have its first meeting since March at 7 p.m. July 7, at the Saxon Club on Meridian Road, Youngstown. Mask will be highly recommended but will not be required.

PARADE CANCELED: The Sons of The American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron have canceled the Independence Day parade in Poland.

SOIL SAMPLE TESTING: Soil testing is available at Mahoning County Extension Office to help ensure residents have healthy soil for their summer gardens and plants. Soil samples can be dropped off anytime at the extension office, 490 S.Broad St., Canfield. Place all samples in the crate at the back door of the offices. Samples should be in plastic bags with your name on them. Cost for the testing is $20 per sample and payment should be provided in an envelope with a check or the exact change. GRANTS AWARDED: The Ohio Humanities Council has awarded $750,000 in CARES Act funds to Ohio cultural nonprofits that have been affected by the shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Applications for emergency grants will be available through the summer. The first grants were awarded in June. Later this year, additional grants will be available to help cultural organizations deliver programs while maintaining the health of the patrons, The CARES Act was passed in March and included $75 million in emergency funding for the National Endowmnent of the Humanities. Ohio Humanities staff are available by email to help applicants navigate the process to access emergency funding.
