Senior-help leader selected as Warrior

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Leah Sakacs, lead organizer of the Senior Support Action Group, is this week’s honoree for the Women Warriors initiative.

The Guiding Circle of the Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls selected Sakacs because of her commitment to local seniors and other immunocompromised individuals during the current health crisis.

Pulling together multiple organizations and dozens of volunteers, Sakacs spearheaded the creation of SSAG to rapidly respond to emerging needs.

The group delivers food, medication and other supplies, as well as provides transportation to those who are homebound because of COVID-19.

Sakacs is also the coordinator of Retired Senior Volunteer Program Mahoning and Trumbull counties and works with several other local organizations.

In both her professional endeavors and volunteer activities, Sakacs continues exhibiting a personal passion for helping others and supporting her neighbors.

Women Warriors is a recognition campaign, featuring brave, courageous women who are stepping up to lead crisis relief and response efforts in the Mahoning Valley during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Each week, the Fund’s Guiding Circle selects one woman from submitted nominations to spotlight on the Foundation’s website, social media and email channels.

Community members are encouraged to use the nomination form to share stories of the women they see doing great things locally.

The form, along with additional details, can be found at cfmv.org/women.
