MARCH FOR JESUS: The annual March for Jesus happens today as an online event because of the coronvavirus outbreak. People are being asked to walk and pray in their own neighborhood by themselves or in small groups at 11 a.m.
The event is being held nationwide as a way for communities to celebrate Jesus. Fifty churches in the Youngstown area are participating.

CHURCH RESUMES IN PERSON: Austintown Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 Canfield Niles Road, will resume in-person starting 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
BACK-TO-CHURCH SUNDAY: Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, will have its first service back in the sanctuary 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Assistant Pastor Kenneth Phillips will speak in the absence of Pastor Jonathan Mitchell. Wearing a mask is optional.
PROTESTANT SERVICES: Protestant Family Service has received COVID-19 Crisis Relief Funds to assist clients who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Money is available for utilities, mortgages, rent and life-sustaining medications.

CHANTING MANTRAS: Unity Spiritual Centre in Liberty will hold Tuesday night ongoing metaphysics meeting 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. each week. The group is discussing metaphysical topics and chanting mantras. Discussion includes some of the mantras that associate with the second cakra, which mainly deal with emotions.

FESTIVALS CANCELED: St. Christine Parish has canceled its annual summer festival June 11 to 14 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The festival committee at Christ Our Savior Parish in Struthers also decided to cancel the COSP Festival at St. Nicholas Church. Next year, the festival will be in June.
The festival is offering its raffle this year, with early bird drawings leading up to the big drawing June 14. The parish asks people to buy or sell tickets and mail them to the parish office with attention to Festival Ticket Chairman.
MEN OF FAITH: The Men of Faith will not be having the First Saturday Breakfast indoors at the Restaurant in the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport for the months of June and July because of the pandemic.
An open praise is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 27 on the lawn of Courthouse Square in Warren. There will be music, testimonies and prayer. Bring your lawn chair.
ISRAEL TRIP: The Church at Warren in Bazetta is planning a “Best of Israel” trip Sept. 8 to 17. The 10-day tour includes visits to Sea of Galilee, Israel, Jerusalem, Holocaust Museum and Bethlehem. BASEMENT OUTREACH: Since the coronavirus pandemic started, Basement Outreach Ministries has provided food and other items to more than 500 families.

AWARD RECEIVED: Judging has been completed and two of CTNY’s works have been selected by the academy to receive a 2020 Telly Award. CTNY won a Silver Telly Award for “Spotlight” with host the Rev. James Korda and guest Bob Elder, who told his personal story of clergy sexual abuse.
A Bronze Telly Award was given for the two-part series called “Power to Protect, Pledge to Heal” on clergy sexual abuse. Participants in that series included Bishop George Murry, Monsignor John Zuraw, diocesan chancellor, and Delphine Baldwin-Casey, investigator for child protection.
The 41st annual Telly Awards honors the best in TV and cable, digital and streaming and nonbroadcast productions.

CHURCH TO REOPEN: Second Baptist Church “A House of Hope,” 1510 Main Ave., Warren, will hold public reopening of the worship May 30-31.
A new worship schedule consisting of three distinct worship experiences will be implemented to limit the number of parishioners in attendance at any single service.
Saturday worship at 6 p.m. will be a contemporary worship service; the Sunday early worship will be at 8 a.m. will be a traditional service; and the Sunday late worship at 10:15 a.m. will be a contemporary service.
Guided entry, seating and exiting procedures have been implemented to ensure proper distancing of all parishioners. All attendees must practice social distancing, sitting only with their families and avoiding physical contact with others. All attendees must wear masks, especially when entering and exiting the sanctuary. Masks will be available to attendees who do not have them.
Worship-related activities, such as offering, communion and corporate prayer, have been adjusted to a contact-free format. The van ministry will not operate until further notice.
Individuals exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms are not to attend services.
All services will be broadcast on the church’s Facebook and You Tube pages. Sunday school classes and children’s church will not be held.
MASS CANCELED: The St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Villa Maria Road, Lowellville, will not celebrate the annual Memorial Day Mass due to COVID-19.

RESPONSIBLE RESTART: As the “Responsible Restart Ohio Plan” is implemented during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic allowing a gradual return to work and lifting of some of the restrictions, the Catholic Bishops of Ohio announced directives for the safe return to the public celebration of the Mass. The bishops of Ohio have agreed that each diocese will determine a soft opening date later in May granting permission for the public celebration of daily Mass where it can be achieved safely and where pastorally possible with less than 50 percent occupancy of the church building, and respecting social distancing. This plan provides for the possibility of the gradual return to the public celebration of Mass on the weekend of May 30 and 31. For the Diocese of Youngstown, the public celebration of daily Mass may resume May 25. Directives and guidelines for the Diocese of Youngstown will be sent to all parishes regarding instructions for the distribution of Holy Communion.
The Solemnity of Pentecost will be marked on the weekend of May 30.

AWARD RECEIVED: The 26th annual Communicator Awards were held and CTNY, the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown, has been selected by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts to be recognized as a 2020 Communicator Awards winner.
CTNY received two Awards of Distinction and one Award of Excellence. The Award of Excellence is for “Wineskins.” The two Awards of Distinction are for “Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal” and “Spotlight.”
The mission of the Communicator Awards is to seek out and recognize outstanding work in marketing and communications. The Communicator Award honors those who spread their message to the world. “Wineskins” is a radio program conceived, produced and assembled in a magazine format by CTNY, airing every Sunday over several local radio stations within the six-counties of the Diocese of Youngstown.
Since its beginning in August of 1981, Wineskins has won many awards. “Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal” is a two-part series produced by CTNY to highlight the issue of clergy sexual abuse. The program host is the Rev. James Korda, president of CTNY, and guests included Bishop George Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown, Msgr. John Zuraw, diocesan chancellor, and Detective Delphine Baldwin-Casey, investigator for child protection. CTNY has received a total of 17 Communicator Awards.

DAY OF PRAYER: The Trumbull County Prayer Movement will hold a local observance of the National Day of Prayer 8 a.m. Thursday. The observance will be a Facebook Live interactive event on The National Day of Prayer Trumbull County Facebook page.
Local pastors will read Scripture and lead prayers for the area, state and nation.
This year’s theme is, “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth.”

NEWLY APPOINTED: Pastor James and Lady Tyson are returning to Greater Apostolic Faith Church in Warren. An outdoor service dubbed “Praise on the Parking Lot” will welcome them at 11 a.m. Sunday.
They served as pastor and first lady in the Warren church from 1977 through 1993. For the past 25 years, they have served in various ministries throughout the Indianapolis area.
Pastor Phillip W. Shealey assumed the role of pastor in 1994. He retired in September of 2019. The Tyson were called upon to return to the Warren church.
Those attending can stay in their cars.
