Volunteers can help feed seniors

SHEPHERD SEEKS HELP FOR SENIORS: At Shepherd of the Valley, efforts are being taken to deal with COVID-19 and all necessary measures to keep residents and staff healthy. The organization is looking for volunteers and partners to help meet seniors’ needs at this time.

Shepherd of the Valley is working with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and League of Women’s Voters to recruit volunteers for senior outreach. If interested in volunteering, visit www.shep herdofthevalley.com/ covid19/. Click the box for volunteers under additional resources.

CLASS REUNION RESCHEDULED: The Chaney High School Class of 1957 reunion scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed. It now is planned as a noon luncheon May 27 at Davidson’s Restaurant in Cornersburg.

KIWANIS AUCTION MOVED: The Kiwanis Club of Youngstown’s 66th annual radio auction has been moved to 5 to 11 p.m. May 6 and will be live on 1390-AM. Tune in at 5 p.m. to bid.

Weekly meetings of the Youngstown Kiwanis Club also are being postponed.

VCS ONLINE TEACHING: Valley Christian Schools students and teachers are doing remote instruction, with families asked to pick up resource packets and Chromebooks at the school. Students will use Google Meets, Remind, Screen-O-Cast and Google Classroom for daily learning. Elementary teachers also are using technology by recording stories and sharing videos of instruction that supports the printed material in their resource packets.

VCS also is serving free breakfast and a hot lunch pickup from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily at the 4401 Southern Blvd. campus.

Community members can pull up to the main entrance, and meals are brought out to the car. Anyone can pick up for their children 18 and under. They do not have to be students at VCS.
