Seeing Eye: WWII presentation set in Canfield

HISTORIAN TO SPEAK: Local historian David Frank will speak on the Remagen Bridge when he addresses the World War II Heritage Group on Feb. 17 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. The talk will be preceded by a buffet dinner costing $14 per person at 6:15 p.m., with reservations due by Thursday through the speaker, 330-757-0515.

The capture of the bridge on March 7, 1945, changed the strategy of both the German and Allied forces. The action was small relative to the major battles waged, but dramatic in the life and death stakes to the soldiers involved and the future impact on the war. Being able to cross the bridge gave Allied forces a leap on their plan to defeat Germany and end the war.

Frank has been the president of both the Civil War Roundtable and World War II Roundtable and works for both groups. He is also a re-enactor in groups for both wars.
