FINANCIAL PLANNING: Corner House Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard, is offering a financial planning workshop today. Among the topics to be covered are debt control, ways to handle education expenses and living with emergency events.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., Youngstown, will host Black History programs 3:30 p.m. every Sunday in February. The theme is “Where Do We Go From Here in the Year 2020?”

On Sunday, the Rev. Henry McNeil, who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in 1967, will speak on where we are now and what we need to be doing for the future of our youth and community.

ANTI-SEMITISM: Rabbi Frank Muller of Congregation Rodef Sholom will present a four-session mini-course, “Anti-Semitism: Past, Present and Future” 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Muller will discuss the world’s most insidious prejudice in centuries past, the forms it has taken in the modern world today and what must be done to prevent it in the future.

SAUCE AND SONG: The monthly Sauce and Song event March 1, sponsored by Youngstown St. Patrick Church, will include a spaghetti dinner and an afternoon concert that will include some Irish songs by the trio Seamus.

The dinner be 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the social hall on Oak Hill Avenue. The one-hour concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the church and will feature the acoustic band Seamus. Each of the members has the first name James, and Seamus is the Irish name for James. Members of the trio are James Johnston Sr., James Johnston Jr. and James Thompson. The trio usually plays classic rock both locally and throughout Pennsylvania

The concert will feature a mix of Irish tunes, pop classics, and one or two hymns. The concert is free, but free-will offerings will be welcomed.

SOUP AND MOVIE SERIES: St. Columba Cathedral, Wood Street, Youngstown, will host a soup and movie series on Mondays during Lent.

The events will begin at 6 p.m. with evening prayer in the church, followed by soup and the movie at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The film series will be Bishop Robert Barron’s “The Mass.”

PERFORMANCE SET: Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will perform with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra on March 7. The 80-voice choir will perform in collaboration with Singers Together and The Youngstown Connection for the YSO’s program entitled “Spiritual Journey: The Road to Peace and Freedom.”

Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir comprises singers from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Portage counties, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Within the six-county Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, 164 men, women and children from 49 parishes are preparing to become members of the Catholic Church at Easter.

Seventy-five people will receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and eucharist at the Easter vigil April 11, and 89 people who already have been baptized in other Christian traditions will make a profession of the Catholic faith and receive the sacraments of confirmation and eucharist.

On the first Sunday of Lent, March 1, the candidates will celebrate the Rite of Election 1:30 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown or 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Canton. During the rites, they will be presented to Bishop George Murry. The candidates will then continue their final preparation for Easter in parishes throughout the diocese.

POLICE GUEST: Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, Liberty, will host Minyan and Meal with Officer David Rankin of the Liberty Police Department and his dog, Leo, on Feb. 26. SAUCE AND SONG: Youngstown St. Patrick Church will host a Sauce and Song event 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday with a spaghetti dinner and afternoon concert in the church. The one-hour concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature the Youngstown Cantorum, a new choral ensemble created to perform in the Carnegie Hall concert on May 23. It will be conducted by Dr. Hae-Jong Lee, professor at the Dana School of Music. Kathy Miller will accompany him. The concert is free.

The Youngstown Cantorum is fundraising for its upcoming tour to New York City.
