Race for a Cure fundraiser held

BEAGLE CLUB EVENT: The Trumbull County Area Beagle Club will hold a Race for the Cure fundraiser Feb. 1 and 2 at Hubbard Conservation Club, 1760 Wick Campbell Road. The event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Registration is 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 1 and 4 to 6 a.m. Feb. 2. There will be raffles and other events. For information call Mike at 724-730-523 or Don at 330-847-1946.

TAX TIPS OFFERED BY LEGAL AID: Community Legal Aid advocates offer residents tips on tax credits, where to go to file for free (for those who qualify) and potential pitfalls to avoid.

People with modest to low incomes often qualify to have their taxes prepared without charge through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Anyone can check to see if they may qualify for this program by visiting www.

benefits.gov.

GARDENING TRAINING: The Mahoning County Master Gardener Volunteer program training will be offered through Mahoning County OSU Extension starting Feb. 4. Botany, soils, entomology, backyard fruit production and pollinators are a few of the topics that will be covered in MGV trainings, along with input from speakers and resources for your use.

After training, volunteers will be equipped to teach at community gardening events, serve in Extension programs such as the Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic or volunteer through various other events offered throughout the year.

training2020. Trainings will be Tuesdays at the Mahoning Extension Office through the beginning of April. The cost is $225, which includes the manual, refreshments, meals and speakers.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE: Mill Creek MetroParks is seeking applicants to fill various positions on the newly reauthorized Citizens Advisory Committees. The committees will operate in an advisory capacity to the MetroParks Board of Commissioners as they aim to fulfill the mission of the MetroParks.
