17 new citizens to receive oath

NATURALIZATION EVENT: The naturalization of 17 new citizens will be celebrated at a ceremony 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mahoning County Courthouse. Judge Beth Smith will oversee the event with Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Anthony Vivo administering the oath to the new citizens.

FALL AWARENESS: Physical therapists at TuDor Physical Therapy are raising awareness of fall-risk factors this winter season and will host a fall prevention seminar from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. The event is free to the public. Individuals of all ages are encouraged to attend to understand the signs and symptoms, as well as prevention techniques for themselves or loved ones who may be at risk.

ART ON DISPLAY: Works of art from Canfield High School art students will be on display at the Art Outreach Gallery located inside the Eastwood Mall. The gallery is open to the public and is located near the JCPenney concourse. Artwork will be on display Friday through Feb. 16. Gallery hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

ACTION PLANS WORKSHOP: ACTION will have a communitywide informational forum “What is White Privilege? Taking off the Mask!” 3 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. Guest speaker is Martin Friedman of Pittsburgh Racial Equity Institution. The diverse and informational forum is geared to bringing the community together. It will be an analysis of how the structures, once constructed, can continue to persist without conscious input from anyone today. Nationally ACTION is affiliated with the Gamaliel Foundation that has been organizing in the United States and abroad for 20 years and represents more than 1 million individuals working for social justice. The program is being presented in more than 50 Gamaliel organizations.
