Seeing eye: Walk for homeless Tuesday

RAISING AWARENESS: The Mahoning County Homeless Continuum of Care will host the annual Homeless Walk 10 a.m. Tuesday.

This walk is intended to bring awareness to people in the community who walk on a daily basis to get the help and services they need.

The walk will begin at the Community Foundation, 201 E. Commerce St., Youngstown, and will travel to the community kitchen and back to the Community Foundation. Following the walk at the Community Foundation will be the annual meeting for the Mahoning County Homeless Continuum of Care.

If someone is homeless and looking for housing, contact Help Network of Northeast Ohio at 211 to complete the Coordinated Entry process.

The following agencies provide services to homeless in Mahoning County: Beatitude House Catholic Charities Regional Agency; COMPASS Family and Community Services; Help Network of Northeast Ohio; Meridian Healthcare; The Ursuline Center; and YWCA Mahoning Valley

SOCIAL MEDIA ADVANTAGES: West Branch Local School District will welcome Josh Ochs 6:30 p.m. Thursday at West Branch High School to teach parents how social media can be used to impress colleges and future employers.

Ochs will discuss what apps are unsafe; what apps are a waste of time for teens and tweens; how to analyze Google results to see what colleges will find; how to bury bad Google results from other users with your similar name; examples of good and bad posts that colleges may find; examples from real seniors who are using social media correctly; and tips for online searches of colleges and future employers.

Parents and students of all ages are invited.

MEALS ON WHEELS: In celebration of the 2019 Subaru Share the Love event, Meals on Wheels of Mahoning County is participating by decorating a Christmas Tree at Fellows Riverside Garden’s Annual Winter Celebration, “The Magical Woods.”
