Seeing Eye: E. Palestine gears up for Snowflake fest

COMMUNITY EVENT: The East Palestine Town and Country Garden Club will hold a Snowflake Festival for the village 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The event will include a variety of activities including cookies and crafts with Santa from noon to 2 p.m. in the park. There will be horse and trolley rides from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a gingerbread house contest at the East Palestine Library. The parade will step off at 7 p.m. and be hosted by the East Palestine Moose.

CHRISTMAS RETIREES: Reservations are required for the Police and Fire Retirees and Widows, Chapter 10 District 2, Christmas event 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, with reservations needed by Dec. 9.

Those attending are asked to bring unwrapped small toys, cars, pencils, books, stuffed animals, coloring and word search books, crayons, games or playing cars for gifts for Akron Children’s Hospital, Mahoning Valley.

SANTA TO ARRIVE IN GIRARD: Santa Claus will be part of two events this week in Girard. The city’s annual tree lighting will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday near the city building, corner of Market Street and Main Street. The Prospect Elementary School and Girard Intermediate School PTO is sponsoring the event. Santa will visit with children. Those attending are asked to bring an ornament to decorate the tree. There will also be caroling by the students.

Santa will also visit Girard Dairy Queen, Main Street, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, and will arrive by fire truck. Children can decorate ornaments from 10 a.m. to noon. Reservations can be made by calling 330-545-2661.

CENTER TO PROVIDE GIFTS: The Emmanuel Care Center in Girard will hold registration through Friday for Christmas gifts for local children. Families who are registered at the center can receive gifts for children 12 and younger.

The center will distribute the gifts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 17. Call 330-545-4301 for information.
