Wash and read in Youngstown on Saturday
LESSONS AND LAUNDERING: Youngstown Promise Neighborhood and Sunshine Bright Laundromat will host its first “Making Laundry Day LIT” event to introduce its “Reading While Laundering” initiative noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the laundry, 2608 South Avenue, No. 3.
The event will include free laundry services for up to 30 families with children. The Public Library of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will be in attendance with its Pop-Up Library and will provide information related to their “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program.
YPN will provide the laundromat with permanent bookshelves and new books for young children to promote early literacy skills and parent engagement. Laundromat clients will have the options to read the books while at the Laundromat and to take the books home at no charge. YPN will replenish books at the laundromat on a monthly basis.
