Trolley tour set in Salem today

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD: The Salem Historical Society is offering an Underground Railroad tour on the Quakertown Trolley 1 p.m. today. While dressed as a Salem Quaker, the docent takes passengers back in time to the late 1850’s. Following the sharing of many stories, the travelers will return to the 21st century with a better understanding of the plight of slaves, the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement in and around Salem prior to the Civil War.

Slides shown in the trolly will help clarify historical information in the presentation and pictures of the insides of the homes, underground Railroad hiding places, and abolitionists who lived in or visited them.

The tour will last approximately an hour with parking at Timberlanes and loading at 239 S. Lundy St. Cost is $15 per person. Call 330-337-673.

MAHONING OGS TO MEET: The Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet 7 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Church Ministry Building, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman. Speaker is Mike Heher. His program will be “OK, you did your tree. Now what?”
