‘Miles of Smiles’ surround entries in annual show

CANFIELD — The Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area, Inc. held its annual flower show at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

This year’s theme was “Miles of Smiles.” There were 123 participants Sept. 3 showing a total of 1,204 entries. Best of Show winners included:

l Dave Peterson with Design “Heirloom”

l Mark Wolfgang’s Dahlia “Steve Meggos”

l Joseph Campati’s Zinnia “Violet Queen”

l Dianna Mullins’ Hosta “Diana Remembered”

l Dennis Dunleavy’s Succulent “Madagascar Palm”

l William Black’s Hybrid Tea Rose “Voodoo”

There were 81 participants Aug. 31 showing a total of 948 entries. Best of Show winners included:

l Barbara Biery’s Design “Clean Water”

l David Haberger’s Dahlia “April Dawn”

l Dianna Mullins’ Caladium “Red Flash”

l Michele Johnson’s Hosta “Fortunei Albopicto”

l Michele Johnson’s Rose “Angel Wings”

The clubs that belong to Garden Forum compete for popular vote at the competition. The winner gets a “People’s Choice” ribbon. This year, six member clubs competed in the Club Door competition — Holborn Herb Guild, Damascus Garden Club, Immaculate Heart of Mary Garden Club, Garden Gate Garden Club of Poland, St. Michael Garden Guild and Hitchcock Woods Garden Club.

The People’s Choice Award went to Damascus Garden Club, with a total of 1,337 votes being cast during fair week.
