Akron Children’s marks expansion of Warren Health Center

2 min read

Akron Children's celebrated the expansion of its Warren Health Center on Wednesday marking an investment in access to pediatric and specialty care for children and families throughout the Mahoning Valley.

The expansion adds 5,000 square feet to the health center at 5000 E. Market St., bringing the facility to 27,400 square feet. Improvements include 14 additional exam rooms for pediatric and specialty services, dedicated space for rehabilitative services and increased capacity to care for more patients.

The project was made possible through $900,000 in contributions from community partners, including Farmers National Bank, the Hynes and Finnegan Foundations, the Edward Barr Charitable Foundation and the Florence Simon Beecher Foundation.

An additional $400,000 was secured through the state capital budget with support from state Sen. Sandra O'Brien, R-Lenox, and state Reps. Nick Santucci, R-Niles, and David Thomas, R-Jefferson.

"Akron Children's has grown significantly in recent years to meet the changing needs of children and families in our communities, and the Warren Health Center is a great example of that growth," said Chris Gessner, president and CEO of Akron Children's. "As the need for more specialized pediatric care increased in the Warren area, we expanded our services to ensure families could access that care closer to home.

"What began as a primary care office has grown to include a variety of specialty services, sports medicine and rehabilitation, as well as urgent care. This expansion is a team effort, and we’re grateful to the individuals and organizations whose support made it possible," he added.

The expanded Warren Health Center offers a range of services, including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, orthopedics, primary care, surgery, pulmonology, urology, rehabilitative services, sports medicine, sports rehabilitation, urgent care, laboratory and radiology services.
