Unemployment claims statewide nudge downward

COLUMBUS -- Ohioans filed 4,019 initial unemployment claims Sept. 6-12, which was 295 fewer than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.

Ohioans also filed 33,984 continued unemployment claims last week, 1,207 fewer than the previous week.

The total number of claims filed for the period was 38,003.

Ohio's unemployment rate in July was 3.4%. The national unemployment rate in July was 4.1%. Ohio's labor force participation rate in July was 61.4%. The national labor force participation rate in July was 61.4%.

ODJFS works in partnership with local workforce development boards and local staff to provide employment and training services at 88 OhioMeansJobs centers throughout the state.
