FINALIST NOMINEE: Trumbull County Tourism has been named a national finalist for the Excellence in Print Marketing Award at U.S. Travel's ESTO Awards, the most prestigious recognition in destination marketing in the country.

The agency's 2025 Truly Trumbull Trip Ideas visitor guide is competing against Visit Ventura, California and Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida.

Being named a finalist again confirms that the quality of Trumbull Tourism's marketing work continues to hold its own against organizations with budgets many times its size.

"This recognition belongs to our staff who bring this level of commitment every single day," said Beth Kotwis Carmichael, CEO. "We compete against multi-million-dollar marketing organizations, and we keep showing up as finalists and winners. We know who we are. Turns out other people are starting to figure it out too."

They also recognize their print partner Great Lakes Studios, whose collaboration helps translate Trumbull Tourism's vision into a guide worthy of national recognition.

CASTLO AWARDS: A scholarship fund for Youngstown State University students living in Campbell, Struthers, Lowellville, Coitsville and Poland townships has been established by the trustees of the CASTLO Community Fund.

The CASTLO Community Improvement Corporation was established in 1978 and serves the communities of Campbell, Struthers, Lowellville, Coitsville Township, and Poland Township. Following the decline of the steel industry, CASTLO transformed the former Youngstown Sheet & Tube property into one of Ohio's first repurposed, shovel-ready industrial parks, helping attract new businesses, create jobs, and stimulate regional growth.

In 2025, the CASTLO Board established a 501 (c) (3) Community Fund to support community enhancement, civic engagement, and educational advancement. A portion of this fund has been earmarked to the YSU Foundation to establish scholarships for YSU students who reside in one of the CASTLO communities.

"With the establishment of our Community Fund, our Board is advancing its mission to directly impact the people and businesses of the CASTLO communities. Our partnership with YSU ensures a long-term commitment to helping resident students achieve their educational goals," said Ray Calcagni, CASTLO Board Chair.

In addition to living in a CASTLO community, eligible resident students must be at least in sophomore status, be enrolled full-time, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form.

COCKEYE DONATION: Gateways to Better Living recently received a donation of $1,084.50 from Cockeye Creamery through its Cockeye Cares Pint Program, representing proceeds from sales of the exclusive Banana Cream Pie ice cream flavor during the second quarter.

The Cockeye Cares Pint Program partners with local nonprofit organizations by creating a signature ice cream flavor and donating a portion of pint sales back to the featured organization. Throughout April, May, and June, customers enjoyed Gateways' custom Banana Cream Pie flavor while directly supporting the organization's mission.

"We are incredibly grateful to Cockeye Creamery for selecting Gateways to Better Living as a Cockeye Cares partner," said Kristie Murphy, community engagement director at Gateways to Better Living. "This partnership not only raised valuable funds for our organization but also increased awareness of our mission throughout the community. We are especially thankful to everyone who purchased a pint and helped make this campaign such a success."

The $1,084.50 donation will help Gateways continue providing quality supports and services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The organization empowers individuals to live meaningful, independent, and fulfilling lives through residential services, day programs, employment supports, and community inclusion opportunities.

"We believe that strong communities are built through partnerships," Murphy added. "Cockeye Creamery found a creative way to give back while bringing people together over something everyone loves, ice cream. We couldn't be more appreciative of their generosity and the support of our community."
