Warren welcomes new Planet Fitness location
WARREN — Planet Fitness opened its doors in Warren for the first time Wednesday during a grand opening.
The gym franchise’s new location sits in the Warren Plaza next to Giant Eagle, a shopping center owned by Mid-America Management Corporation.
Christian Shipley, the senior director of operations, said the team is excited about the new location.
“At Planet Fitness, our mission is to make fitness accessible and welcoming to everyone,” he said.
He added that many folks from nearby areas have stuck with their Niles club for years. “When the opportunity to come to Warren aligned, we were thrilled,” he said. “Being able to expand and bring a club closer to them makes this special for us.”
During the grand opening celebration, which ran all day Wednesday, visitors got to check out the highlights.
Regional Manager Ryan Mikolai demonstrated the new turf zone, a patch of artificial grass for activities like pushing weighted sleds, jumping exercises or agility training on a nonslip surface.
General Manager Megan Fultz showed off the half-racks, which are metal frames designed for secure weightlifting moves like squats or presses.
The gym includes more than 70 cardio machines, along with free weights and updated plate-loaded gear. It also has a dedicated area for stretching and mobility work plus complimentary fitness training sessions available to all members.
Those opting for the higher-tier PF Black Card get access to a spa section with massage chairs, water-based massage beds, a recovery space and tanning booths. Free WiFi and multiple TVs are available throughout the facility.
“This location came out amazing and it is equipped with new strength equipment that many have not seen at a Planet Fitness before,” Shipley said.
He added that it’s suited for various users.
“We have everything you need to stay healthy no matter the fitness level,” Shipley said.
“We’re very excited to share it with everyone and make a positive impact in the area.”
The site has hired about 15 staff members, Shipley said.
