Mercy Health, Humana secure new contract
Staff report
Mercy Health and health insurer Humana reached an agreement earlier this week affecting more than 10,000 Valley patients who use the health system as an in-network provider.
The agreement takes effect Dec. 1 and covers Humana contracts for Medicare Advantage and Managed Medicaid health plans. The pact allows Mercy Health hospitals, physicians, urgent care clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and other care sites to remain in-network for all patients covered by Humana’s plans.
“We understand how stressful negotiations like these can be for patients,” said John Luellen, M.D., the health system’s president for Ohio. “Our priority throughout this process has been to protect our patients from uncertainty and disruption.”
In a news release, Mercy said contract negotiations between hospitals and insurers have become increasingly common.
“Mercy Health aims to secure long-term partnerships with major payers to minimize these disruptions and maintain consistent access to care,” the release states.
A Humana representative confirmed Wednesday an agreement was reached “that will preserve in-network access to quality, affordable care for Humana’s Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members. We look forward to continuing to work with Bon Secours Mercy Health through our mutually beneficial relationship.”
