Boardman Movies 8 announces upcoming closure

Staff report

A discounted movie theater in Boardman will end operations Jan. 1.

Paige DeCiancio, co-owner of Movies 8, made the announcement Wednesday on social media.

“It’s not easy to walk away from this place, and it’s the last thing that we wanted,” she said. “But sometimes good things come to an end.”

Movies 8 features previously run movies at $4 per person and recently added Disney movie classics. The facility will operate through Dec. 31.

“Over the last 11 years, we could not have asked for a better community, better customers, better regulars,” she said. “We have had so much fun being your discount theater option, and we know that it was an important place for people. … Life’s expensive, and we tried our best to keep things inexpensive and affordable.”

DeCiancio said the effects of COVID-19 and customer preferences led to the decision.

“But the fact of the matter is that people want the reclining seats, the alcohol, the food, all that,” she said. “And if we had the money to give … we absolutely would, but we just don’t.”

The DeCiancio family has operated the discounted-price movie house since June 2014. It also runs Skyway Twin Drive-In Theatre on North Leavitt Road NW in Warren. Skyway will mark its 77th season in 2026, DeCiancio said.

“Thank you for everything,” she said. “From the bottom of our hearts, we will miss you.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
