Sharon rail business to close plant, move workers

Staff report

Rail industry supplier A. Stucki Co. announced Monday it plans to close its plant in Sharon, Pa., and consolidate its work with other company operations by the end of 2026.

About 46 employees will be affected, according to a company news release.

“The team at Sharon has contributed greatly to Stucki’s success, and we are deeply grateful for their hard work and commitment,” said Ron Port, Stucki’s chief executive officer.

The Sharon plant provides new and reconditioned railcar components and systems, including wheelsets, bolsters, side frames, truck assemblies and couplers and yokes.

“The reality is that to secure Stucki’s future, we must adapt how and where we manufacture,” Port said. “The railroad industry is changing, and our customers expect us to be more competitive than ever. To keep growing and remain a strong employer for years to come, we need to maximize efficiency.”

Work will be consolidated at Stucki facilities in Farrell, Pa., Jerseyville, Ill., and Monterrey, Mexico. Some affected workers may be offered opportunities at one of Stucki’s 18 other North American locations, the company said.

“We are committed to supporting every one of our employees through this transition and next steps,” Port said. “We will also work closely with our customers to ensure that orders continue to be delivered on time and with the quality they expect.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
