Fewer initial unemployment claims filed across Ohio last week

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday that Ohioans filed 4,855 initial unemployment claims for the week of July 27 through Aug. 2, which was 226 fewer than the previous week.
Ohioans filed 49,173 continued unemployment claims last week, which was 77 more than the previous week.
The total number of claims filed for the period was 54,028.
The June unemployment rates in Mahoning and Trumbull counties were 5.6% and 6.2%, respectively. Mahoning County had 5,900 workers unemployed while the number in Trumbull County was 5,600.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in June was 4.9%. The national unemployment rate in June was 4.1%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in June was 62.7%. The national labor force participation rate in June was 62.3%.
