BOARDMAN — A Texas-based recreation retailer specializing in sporting goods and outdoor equipment will open its newest store in Boardman next month.

Academy Sports + Outdoors, with more than 300 stores in 21 states, will open its 55,500-square-foot store at 1280 Doral Drive, the retailer said in a news release Wednesday. It will operate in the former Designer Shoe Warehouse and Staples, next to the Walmart Supercenter.

The store’s grand opening will be announced later. This marks the company’s third Ohio location.

In addition to its private label brands, Academy said it will offer products from well-known manufacturers such as Nike, Adidas, Jordan Brand, Carhartt, Stanley and Titleist.

“Academy is focused on providing the best service, experience and value to help customers pursue the activities that they love and make new memories on any budget,” the company said.

Academy said 60 new jobs will be created at the Boardman location. Applications are available at careers.academy.com.
