Chevrolet, Ford sales power Northern Ohio dealerships
Staff report
Sales of Chevrolet and Ford ruled the roads of Northern Ohio in May, according to last week’s Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association report.
Association figures show 19,398 new vehicles registered in May, a difference of 0.19% compared to the 18,890 sales in the same month last year. Year-to-date sales figures were up by 6.81% over last year.
“Last month’s new vehicle sales align almost exactly with May 2024 as the market settles into a more consistent pace, after numerous administrative uncertainties,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, association president. “Used vehicle sales are still struggling, given higher wholesale costs with less inventory available.”
New vehicle sales, while up in May, did not come close to April’s record sales of 23,124.
Chevrolet was in the top spot as it posted 2,597 sales in May. Ford holds onto second with 2,410 new vehicles. Honda’s sales of 1,851 vehicles kept the brand in third. Kia and Toyota followed with 1,718 and 1,626, respectively.
Used vehicle sales totaled 18,170 in May, a drop of 4.58% compared to the same month last year, and down by 5.72% year over year.
From January through May, 13,855 Chevrolet cars and trucks were sold. Across the association’s 21-county coverage area, which includes Trumbull, Mahoning, Astabula and Columbiana counties, approximately 97,000 new vehicles were sold compared to approximately 90,600 during the same period in 2024.
Leading the Mahoning Valley in new and used car sales for May was Boardman Subaru with 234.
In the No. 2 slot was Ken Ganley Kia Boardman (213). Rounding out the Top 10 for last month were Greenwood Chevrolet (204), Fairway Ford (165), Cochran Chevrolet (150), Cochran Honda Boardman (144), Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac (139), Cochran Buick GMC (136), Fairway Chevrolet GMC (130) and Toyota of Boardman (126).
