New car sales in April break 10-year high; Boardman Subaru paces Valley

Staff report

Boardman Subaru paced the Mahoning Valley in new and used vehicle sales with 324 in April, according to last week’s report from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The dealership, 7811 South Ave. in Boardman, sold 201 new vehicles for the month, compared to 158 in April 2024. Used vehicles accounted for 123 sales, compared to 96 during the same period last year.

For the year, Boardman Subaru recorded 588 new vehicle sales and 411 used vehicle sales, according to the association.

The association said that new vehicle sales in Northern Ohio increased by 22.41% in April when compared to the same month last year. The association said 23,124 new vehicles were registered last month, compared to the 18,890 sales in April 2024. Year-to-date sales figures are up 8.72% over last year.

“Last month was the largest new car selling April in 10 years,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, the group’s president. “The rush to purchase or lease a new vehicle to avoid a potential cost increase was a driving factor, as each manufacturer addresses tariff implications with regard to pricing.

“At this time, the new and used auto sales market is fluid, and predictability in consumer demand is difficult to determine.”

Used vehicle sales totaled 19,196 in April, an increase of 1.43% compared to the same month last year, and down by 6.02% year over year.

With 3,346 new vehicles sold in April, Chevrolet remains Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand. Ford’s sales of 2,662 placed the brand in second, while Honda held onto third with 2,249. Kia and Toyota had 1,981 and 1,603 sales, respectively.

In addition to Boardman Subaru, Valley dealerships reporting more than 100 new and used vehicle sales for April were Fairway Ford (259), Greenwood Chevrolet (255), Ken Ganley Kia Boardman (249), Cochran Buick GMC (214), Cochran Chevrolet (183), Cochran Honda Boardman (177), Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac (171), Toyota of Boardman (150), Sims Buick GMC Truck (137), Preston Hyundai (134), Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren (118), Preston Mazda (109), Diane Sauer Chevrolet (105) and Toyota of Warren (104).
