YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries Inc. has announced Shelley Murray as the agency's interim chief executive officer for 2024.

Murray of Canfield is taking over for CEO Ann Phillips, who is taking a one-year maternity leave, according to a news release Wednesday. Phillips plans to return in January 2025.

"I'm looking forward to working with the team here at Goodwill in 2024," Murray said. "I've already visited all 10 of our store locations. I'm genuinely excited to work with the entire Goodwill community, as they share enthusiasm for our common mission and purpose."

She joins Goodwill following more than 20 years in education, most recently at Valley Christian Schools. She served as principal, vice principal and head of schools during her tenure.

Youngstown Area Goodwill, which serves eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, works to expand employment and training opportunities for people in the region, including those with disabilities and other barriers, through the agency's programming.

Sales through its retail stores support its mission and help divert items from landfills, and it has a business services division that creates employment opportunities by providing janitorial, commercial, laundry, lawn care and custom contract services to area businesses and organizations.
