WRTA ANNOUNCES BUSINESSES: The Western Reserve Transit Authority’s Give Small Business A Lift Campaign is back with its second annual edition, featuring a dozen local businesses.
The featured businesses are Cal-Ohio Lube Products, Heroes and Tiaras, EndTime Grafix, Pop! Art Books Culture, J&J Complete Lawn Care, YoGo Bikeshare, Sunstone Garden LLC, Sweet Grace Anna’s Fancy Cakes & Bakery, A Fresh Wind Catering, Aisle One Mobile Market, Overall Paint Co. and Unique Locs & Natural Hair Boutique, LLC.
More than 90 businesses applied.
The 12 chosen small businesses receive promotion on WRTA bus sign and other advertising, and graphic branding on the giant digital screen over Federal Station and social media.
WORKFORCE EVENT PLANNED: Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership is planning a workforce symposium 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 at Congregation Ohev Beth Shalom, 1119 Elm St., Youngstown.
The event will include motivational speakers and group discussions with coaches, mentors and employers.

SAFETY AWARD GIVEN TO DOMINION: For four consecutive years, Dominion Energy Ohio has received the American Gas Association’s Safety Achievement Award for excellence in employee safety. The award for safety recognized Dominion Energy Ohio’s 2022 employee safety performance among very large gas distribution companies.
The award is the natural gas utility industry trade group’s highest employer safety honor.
This is the eighth time the company has achieved this award since 2008. The AGA awards its Safety Achievement Award to member companies that experience the lowest incident rate for the number of days away from work, restricted or transferred.
MANCAN INC. AWARDED: Boardman-based MANCAN Inc. Staffing has been placed on the Forbes list of America’s Best Recruiting and Temporary Staffing Firms 2023. The award is presented by Forbes and Statista Inc., a statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
The award is based on an independent survey of peers and clients. More than 36,400 external recruiters and 9,200 human resources managers, hiring managers and candidates were invited to participate in this year’s survey.
MANCAN Inc. Staffing has been recognized on the list four years in a row.
MERIDIAN EXPANDS SERVICES: Meridian HealthCare has expanded its mental health services its locations in Poland, 2894 Center Road, and in Boardman, 8255 South Ave.
According to the company, Meridian continues to see an increased need for mental health care related to anxiety, depression and other issues in our community.
Leading Meridian’s mental health program is licensed clinical therapist Lucy Golden. She has more than six years of experience in the addiction and mental health field and is passionate about helping those who struggle with their mental health.
SUCCESSFUL HIRING EVENT HELD: A hiring event April 25 by Youngstown Works, a consortium of nonprofit agencies serving Youngstown and Mahoning, resulted in the recruitment of more than 200 job seekers.
The hiring event was open to all interested candidates, with positions available in various industries, including manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, health care and service. Candidates were able to speak with recruiters and hiring managers on-site, submit applications and resumes, and participate in on-the-spot interviews.
Youngstown Works provides job seekers who are seeking educational, training or employment opportunities with all the resources they need in a single website.
YSU STUDENTS IN EXPORT PROGRAM: Thirteen business students have been selected to participate in the 2023 Ohio Export Internship Program in the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University.
Those picked completed specialized coursework in exporting in the spring semester and have been matched with an Ohio company for a full-time paid summer internship. Internship projects include export compliance, market research, market expansion and international business plans.
The Ohio Export Internship Program, created by the Ohio Department of Development and offered at YSU and other universities, provides an opportunity for businesses interested in expanding their exporting activities.
This year’s participants from the Youngstown State University cohort include Kabir Abdullahi, Jamison Ball, Lugina Bassil, Jack Brant, Anna Buffone, Makenzie Callihan, Zakria Chandio, Christian Febinger, Nathan Hill, Matthew May,Collin Meehan, Alessandra Montanez and Zackary L. Shumaker.
PECCHIA IMPROVES SERVICES: Pecchia Communications is upgrading its video and multimedia capabilities to capitalize on growing demand for those services.
As part of this push, Joe Catullo, formerly project manager, has been named multimedia specialist.
Catullo, a former multimedia journalist, has spearheaded video projects for several Pecchia Communications clients since joining the firm in mid-2022. He also has run a wedding videography business since 2018.

REALTOR JOINS FIRM: Realtor Diane Fredenburg recently joined Coldwell Banker EvenBay Real Estate.
Fredenburg, a lifelong resident of Trumbull County who has serviced the community in real estate for more than 20 years, began her career with Coldwell Banker in 2002 and is making a full circle back to the brand.
Her certifications include Certified Negotiation Expert and Senior Real Estate Specialist.
DOCTOR COMES ABOARD: John Barrett, doctor of podiatric medicine, recently joined Austintown Podiatry Associates.
Barrett, born and raised in Youngstown, has served the area as a podiatrist for 33 years. Since 2020, he has been serving military veterans in the VA health care system.
HOWMET ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENT: Vagner Finelli has joined Howmet Aerospace as president of Howmet Fastening Systems.
In the role, Vagner will have responsibility for all HFS employees and locations globally. Vagner will be based in Torrance, Calif., and will report directly to John Plant, executive chairman and chief executive officer.
The company operates a titanium mill in Weathersfield.
