The hospital opened Aug. 1, 2007, and underwent a major expansion in 2012 with the addition of a 165,000-square-foot, seven-story inpatient bed tower.

Other updates and expansions include moving labor and delivery to Boardman in 2014, now more than 3,500 babies are delivered each year at the hospital; opening medical oncology and infusion services in 2021; expanding the physician network by adding emergency medicine, family medicine and otolaryngology residency programs to the campus; starting the robotics program for general and gynecological surgical procedures in 2017; and adding urological robotics in 2021 and adding a specialized robot for total hip and knee replacements in 2018.

In addition, the hospital achieved Magnet status in nursing in 2011 for excellence in nursing.

“We take great pride in having served our community for more than 100 years, including 15 at our location in Boardman. The foundation of Mercy Health dates back to 1911 when St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital opened under the management of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary. Mercy Health also operates St. Joseph Warren Hospital in Warren.
