Skilled Trades Expo preps for return to Canfield Fairgrounds

CANFIELD — Adult job seekers and students considering a career in the skilled trades can connect with professionals about entering the industry when the Mahoning Valley Skilled Trades Expo returns to the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The adult session is 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 22. Separate sessions for students in seventh to 12th grade will be 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 and 23.

“A lot of people don’t realize the variety of skilled trades positions available and the financial security these careers can provide,” said Gary Hartman, services director at The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

“This is a chance for men, women and students to discover how their talents and interests align with different trades,” he said.

The event will feature interactive displays to allow participants to experience the industry directly under the supervision of certified industry professionals.

The portion for students is split into two days. Students from Mahoning, Columbiana and Portage counties will attend Sept. 22 and students from Trumbull County and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania will attend Sept. 23.

The event is put on by the builders association, which represent more than 150 construction companies in the Mahoning Valley and western Pennsylvania.
