CHAMBER JOINS COALITION: The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber has joined with Ohio businesses and trade organizations to mobilize Ohioans to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Led by the Ohio Business Roundtable, employers announced the Coalition to Stop the Spread, an initiative that recognizes the risk COVID-19 poses to Ohio’s economy and the gains that have been made since the initial shutdowns of businesses and schools.

The coalition asks people to wear a mask, not just where it is mandated in public, but when gathering with any small friend or family group beyond your immediate household.

The coalition’s mission is in line with the chamber’s EMERGE program, launched last year to help local businesses emerge from the pandemic. Hundreds of businesses have received one-on-one assistance, personal protective equipment and regular updates through the program.

AUTO SHOW RELOCATING: The 2021 Cleveland Auto Show will happen this year in December at the Convention Center in downtown Cleveland.

Public show dates are planned for Dec. 4 to 12. More information and tickets can be found on the auto show’s Facebook page or at clevelandautoshow.com.

The show was forced to find a new location when the I-X Center, where it had been for several years, closed.

AIM RECOGNIZES EMPLOYEES: Girard-based Aim Transportation Solutions recently recognized two employees with the company’s President’s Core Value Award.

From Integrated Logistics, Matt Zaller, who drives for Aim customer Joyce Manufacturing, received the President’s Core Value Award for Commitment. Javier Figueroa, a working foreman for Aim ProShop customer Hensley Beverage Co., also received that same award. Zaller and Figueroa are the first ever to receive the award. Both received a $2,000 bonus.

YSU OFFERS TAX HELP PROGRAM: Youngstown State University’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is open with with special protocols in place for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program, in which YSU business students and community volunteers provide free tax preparation and filing, this year will require taxpayers to make appointments to drop off and pick up their tax materials at YSU.

The program will run on Feb. 13, 20 and 27; March 4, 20 and 27; and April 3. Call 330-941-2507 to make an appointment. Masks and social distancing are required. No walk-ins will be accepted.

VET TECH STUDENTS RECEIVE HIGH MARKS: Students in the veterinary technology program at Kent State University at Trumbull in Champion recently earned the highest three-year average passage rate in Ohio on the Veterinary Technician National Exam

For the second consecutive year, students in the program, administered through Kent State Tuscarawas, achieved a 100 percent passage rate on their first attempt. This brings the school’s three-year average to 90.7 percent. The national 3-year average is approximately 73 percent.

The test is administered by the American Association Of Veterinary State Boards.

COIN STORE OPEN: Elite Rare Coins, 175 Folsom St. NW, Warren, recently opened with a ribbon-cutting. It is a full service store for collectors and investors that offers precious metal bullion, collector coins and supplies for the hobby, appraisal services and estate management / liquidation.

The store is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

SMALL BUSINESS CO-OP IN YOUNGSTOWN: Common Goods Studio, 2000 Canfield Road, Youngstown, features inventory from 45 local businesses.

In addition, the 2,000-square-foot studio space will have a coffee and cocktail bar serving Branch Street Coffee Roasters and a menu that specializes in dairy-free and vegan options, as well as a photo studio, a common space that could be turned into an event center. It can be rented or used as a photo studio that can be rented.

The studio recently opened. It will operate 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

SURGEON JOINS REHAB FIRM: Ohio Pain & Rehabilitation, a chiropractic and physical therapy center in Warren, recently brought on Dr. Matthew E. Levy, board-certified for orthopedic surgery.

Levy will be the new physician of record treating foot, ankle, knee, shoulder and hip injuries. He also will specialize in work related injuries at the practice.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Ohio State Medical Association, American College of Surgeons and Arthroscopy Society of North America.

OPERATIONS MANAGER HIRED AT BRITE: To oversee incubator programs, business processes and maintain its Courthouse Square offices, BRITE Energy Innovators has brought on Joe Paloski as operations manager.

His role will include overseeing staff and project management for the incubator and its programs, monitoring performance indicators for business processes, and managing tenant relationships and the co-working space.

Paloski is a Canfield Township trustee and is the township’s representative on the Cardinal Joint Fire District. He also serves on the Mahoning County HAZMAT Board. Paloski is a graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science

and master’s degree in history.
