Chamber honored for supplier events

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber’s economic development division was recognized Thursday by the Ohio Economic Development Association for coordinating two supplier events for Lordstown Motors Corp.

The chamber team was given OEDA’s 2020 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Award for the meetings in January and February that attracted more than 800 people and nearly 600 companies from across the U.S. and internationally to explore being part of Lordstown Motors’ supply chain.

Lordstown Motors is a startup auto company that plans to begin manufacturing an all-electric pickup truck — the Endurance – next year at the former General Motors plant in Lordstown.

At the events, the Lordstown Motors’ staff provided attendees with an overview of their processes, vehicle design and future needs, and attendees had a chance to connect directly with members of the company’s executive, facilities, purchasing and engineering staff.

Following the event, the chamber compiled a procurement guide with information for each company that attended, including capabilities statements, past experience supplying to the Lordstown facility and other information that Lordstown Motors could use for each stage of the retooling and production processes.

“It is always nice to be recognized by your peers for a job well done. Our procurement events have been a great way for our members to connect with the local companies we’re assisting with expanding and those we attract to the market,” Sarah Boyarko, the chamber’s chief operating officer said. “The LMC event was especially successful for service providers to connect with the LMC executive team and one another. We received a great deal of positive feedback from the participants.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
