AKRON CHILDREN’S NURSE RESEARCH SCHOLARS: Four nurses of Akron Children’s Hospital have been named 2020 Nurse Research Scholars, including registered nurse Shelley Sidora of Niles.

Sidora, who holds a Master of Science in nursing, is coordinator of clinical education, Akron Children’s St. Joe’s Special Care Nursery in Warren.

Sidora will be part of a study team that will examine the effectiveness of a Resourcefulness Training Intervention (RTI) designed for parent caregivers of children dependent on medical technology (mechanical ventilation, feeding tubes) on the parents’ psychological and physical outcomes and self-management behaviors (sleep, positive health practices) over a nine-month period.

The scholar program prepares nurses to participate in the hospital’s research mission by increasing their knowledge and application of research through planning, conduct, dissemination and translation of study results into practice.

BRITE LAUNCHES FUNDING CAMPAIGN: BRITE Energy Innovators is launching its annual appeal, the BRITE People campaign, to raise money to expand its capabilities to help technology startup and energy portfolio companies innovate and grow.

As an incentive for the public to donate, BRITE has partnered with Tesla, and will celebrate its donors Nov. 19 at BRITE’s headquarters in downtown Warren.

Those who give at least $250 by Nov. 13 will receive a test drive of a Tesla, a coupon to enjoy a Tesla on your own for 24 hours and an entry into a drawing to keep a Tesla for a week.

MERIDIAN RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT: The Youngstown Foundation has given a $50,000 grant to Meridian HealthCare to help update Meridian’s video recording system at multiple locations. The project will increase security and provide a safe environment for the residents and patients.

Meridian’s largest housing site, Meridian’s South Campus, 550 Chalmers Ave., Youngstown; its Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities program; and three other housing sites — Meridian’s Women’s Center South, Meridian Manor and Meridian Court — will benefit.

Over the last few years, Meridian has installed new cameras at these sites, but needed a video-recording system that was more compatible and allowed for future growth.

898 MAKES INTERNAL MOVE: Ryan Peplowski has been promoted to digital marketing manager with 898 Marketing in Canfield.

In the role, he will develop digital display and search campaigns, implement tracking on Google campaigns, optimize digital campaigns through data tracking and analytics and develop digital media strategies.

He is Google Analytics and Ad certified. He’s also completed his certification with The Trade Desk Edge.

Peplowski joined the firm in 2019 as an intern. He was hired full-time as digital information specialist after graduating from Youngstown State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in marketing.

YOUNGSTOWN HARDWARE AWARDED: Campbell PRO Hardware and Supply in Youngstown, owned by Tony Tsikouris, was recently awarded the 2020 Paul L. Cosgrave Memorial Award, presented by Denver-based PRO Group. Campbell PRO Hardware and Supply is also The Bostwick-Braun Co. PRO Retailer of the Year for 2019.

The award recognizes strength and commitment to community.

Tsikouris worked as a welder, then later at a local hardware store before opening Campbell PRO Hardware and Supply in 1994. The business began as a 1,200-square-foot store, eventually growing to 6,400 square feet of selling space equipped with a 12,000-square-foot warehouse.

He employs 10 people and has used Bostwick-Braun as his primary supplier for more than 25 years.

People on the Move

BURGAN ADDS TO TEAM: Canfield-based Burgan Real Estate has added Ashley Montalvo to its team of Realtors.

Montalvo, a native of Rhode Island, previously worked as a quality assurance specialist with a telecommunications company, became interested in selling homes when she and was looking for a home in the Youngstown area.

She is married with two daughters and also has four stepchildren.
