The Georgetown sold at auction

BOARDMAN — The Georgetown, a well-known banquet center that closed earlier this year, sold Thursday at auction.

The winning bidder paid $202,220 for the hall at 5945 South Ave., said Russell T. Kiko of Kiko Auctions in Canton and Dover. Kiko did not disclose the name of the winning bidder, who was required to put 10 percent down on the sale. An online auction for the building’s contents, from kitchen and catering equipment to tables and chairs, runs through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The 15,570-square-foot center at Matthew Square Plaza can accommodate seating for 800 people. Opening in 1975, the owners decided to close in February.

Mahoning County Treasurer Dan Yemma in October sued the owners for back taxes. The Mahoning County Auditor’s office shows $87,222 in taxes were due, and the last payment was made in May 2017.
