Gasoline prices rise to near $2 per gallon

The average price for gasoline in the Youngstown-Warren and Niles areas is 8 cents higher this week to rest at $1.88 and $1.95 per gallon, respectively, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

In northeast Ohio, the price rose 6 cents to $1.91 per gallon. The average price this week last year was $2.76 per gallon.

Across the U.S, nearly every state’s average rose an average of 4 cents. At the start of the week leading up to the Memorial Day weekend, the national gas price average is $1.87 per gallon. The last time the national gas price average leading into the holiday was under $2 per gallon was in 2003, when motorists paid, on average, $1.50 per gallon to fill up.
