SOUTHWOODS HOSPITAL NAMED TO TOP LIST: The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods in Boardman has been named a “Top Patient-Recommended Hospital,” as reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.

It is the only hospital in Ohio and one of 22 hospitals in the U.S. on the list.

The list is based on figures from CMS’ Hospital Compare website and represents the most recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems scores.

BUSINESS STUDENTS SELECTED FELLOWS: Sabrina Caruso, Alanis Chew, Roshan Chokshi, Ryan Sheffield and Jenna Binsley, all business students at the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, have been selected as the John D. Beeghly Fellows for the 2020 spring semester.

The program provides students with a paid fellowship working with the Ohio Small Business Development Center at YSU. Binsley, of New Springfield, is a junior marketing major with minors in nonprofit leadership and advertising / public relations; Caruso, of Champion, is a junior marketing major and plans to pursue a second major in finance; Chew of Youngstown, is a senior business economics and mathematics double major; Chokshi, an international student from India, is a junior business finance and accounting double major; and Sheffield of Youngstown, is a junior majoring in management with a minor in international business.

STILL TIME TO APPLY FOR AG-LINK: The deadline for farmers and agribusinesses to apply for the 2020 Ag-LINK program is Friday.

Through the program, farmers and agribusinesses may qualify for reduced interest loans for operating costs related to feed, seed, fertilizer, fuel and other expenses.

Through this application period, farm operators and agribusiness owners based in Ohio can receive an interest rate reduction on loans up to $150,000.

Those interested in Ag-LINK should contact their ag-lender to begin the online loan application process. More information on the Ag-LINK program can be found online at http://ohiotreasurer.gov/aglink.

People on the Move

UNITED WAY PRESIDENT NAMED: Sue Filipovich, co-owner of Burgan Real Estate in Boardman, was recently named president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Women United.

She will serve through 2020 and lead the initiative that supports the United Way’s “Success After 6” program in the Youngstown City School District.

She was an original steering committee member in starting Women United, a service organization that focuses on early education.

The group also brought the program to schools in Liberty, Campbell, Struthers and Girard.

JEWISH FEDERATION NAMES DIRECTOR: Eric Murray has been named executive director of senior care and services for the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

In the role, he will oversee Heritage Manor Rehabilitation & Retirement Community and Adult Day Services and Levy Gardens Assisted Living Facility. He started March 9.

Heritage Manor and Levy Gardens are agencies of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.

ONE HEALTH ADDS COUNSELOR: ONE Health Ohio in Youngstown has brought on behavioral health counselor John Kelly at the health care provider’s Newton Falls location, 175 E. Broad St.

Kelly, a graduate of Youngstown State University who has been in the field since 2015, will treat child, adolescent and adult patients.

LOCAL MEN ELITE DRIVERS: Christopher Bray of Brookfield and Thomas Lepo of Hubbard are among 56 UPS drivers from Ohio inducted into the Circle of Honor, an honorary group of UPS drivers who have achieved 25 years or more of accident-free driving.

The group contains 375 drivers from Ohio with more than 10,300 years of accident-free driving.

Bray works in Middleburg Heights and Lepo, the Mahoning Valley.

BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY ADDS AGENT: Amy Blackburn has recently joined Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northwood Realty Services’ office in Salem.

Blackburn, of Salem, has previous experience as an implementation analyst in the health care industry and a bachelor’s degree in business management.

AKRON CHILDREN’S ADDS PHYSIATRIST: Dr. Adam Bartlett has joined the pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation department at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Prior to joining Akron Children’s, Bartlett was a pediatric physiatrist at University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California.

Akron Children’s has locations in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
