Regional Chamber selects Humphries as CEO, promotes Abruzzino

YOUNGSTOWN — The board of directors for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber has named Tom Humphries president and CEO, and Vito Abruzzino vice president of defense programs.

For Humphries, the move removes the transitional president / CEO tag and permanently returns him to the position he held from 1997 to 2017, when he retired and was replaced by James Dignan.

The board in November decided not to renew the contract for Dignan, which expired in December.

Said Don Kline, chairman of the board of directors: “We are pleased that Tom has agreed to return as president and CEO. He has a longtime, proven track record of success with the Chamber, and we look forward to his continued leadership.”

The agreement with Humphries is for one year, but both sides have the option to extend it at the end of 2020.

By promoting Abruzzino, who in 2015 was named director of the chamber’s Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission, the chamber is accelerating its military advocacy.

As a part-time consultant, Abruzzino, a U.S. Army veteran, led the public policy effort to help the Youngstown Air Reserve Station and Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center receive tens of millions of dollars each in federal investments and position them for future growth.

Abruzzino will continue in the role with the commission while now working full time for the chamber.

“With the potential to bring new, modern aircraft to YARS and have the aerial spray mission expanded, as well as the potential for Camp Garfield to house an East Coast missile defense system, the time is right to build on the momentum we have already created,” Humphries said.
