HUBBARD TOWNSHIP -- Gregory Connors, 43, of Youngstown, was killed in a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 80 eastbound that involved two other vehicles that were stopped on the highway because of traffic.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol issued a press release Saturday morning stating that the crash occurred at 4:55 p.m. in Hubbard Township.
The release states that Connors was in the left lane, failed to slow down, and "clipped the right rear portion" of a 2011 Subaru Legacy operated by Nicholas Shields, 23, of Elyria, then continued into the right lane and struck the rear of the trailer attached to a Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer operated by Karanjit Singh, 36, of Levittown, New York. The Subaru and the semi were both stopped in traffic on the highway. Connors was driving a 2020 GMC Savanna.
Connors was transported by a Hubbard ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, the press release states.
It is unknown whether Connors was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Assisting agencies included Medivac, Liberty Fire, Brookfield Fire and EMS, Hubbard Fire and EMS, the Hubbard Township Police Department, Underwood's Towing and C & C Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Southington. The release did not mention any injuries to anyone other than Connors.
