YOUNGSTOWN – Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA) is partnering with Wings Over The Valley to help make the holiday season brighter for children and families throughout the Mahoning Valley through the organization's third annual Christmas Toy Drive.
As a public transportation provider, WRTA plays an important role in connecting people to the destinations and opportunities that help them thrive. WRTA's commitment to the Mahoning Valley extends well beyond its buses and routes. Through community partnerships, outreach initiatives and local engagement, WRTA strives to be a trusted community partner that supports the people it serves both on and off the bus.
This holiday season, that commitment takes on a special meaning: helping connect Santa Claus with local families and ensuring more children can experience the joy of receiving a gift. WRTA is encouraging employees, passengers, businesses and community members to participate by donating new, unwrapped toys. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 16 at two WRTA locations: The WRTA Administration Building, 604 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, and the WRTA Federal Station Transit Center in downtown Youngstown. Donations may be left with the security guard at the station.
"At WRTA, we believe our responsibility to this community goes beyond providing transportation. We are part of the fabric of the Mahoning Valley, and we have an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of the people who calls the Youngstown-area home," said Dean J. Harris, WRTA Chief Executive Officer. "Whether we are connecting someone to a job, helping a student get to class, making it easier for a senior to access the community or bringing people together to support local families, our purpose is rooted in service. Through this partnership with Wings Over The Valley, we have the opportunity to help connect Santa Claus with children throughout our community and bring a little extra joy to families during the holidays."
The deadline for donations is Dec. 16.
