TORCH CLUB PROGRAM: The Youngstown Torch Club will sponsor a presentation by longtime area writer, poet, and educator Dr. Carmen Leone at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Davidson's Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road. Author of the popular novel "Rose Street: A Family Story," Leone will discuss the importance of preserving family stories while sharing some of the literary approaches he developed over the years.

A product of Youngstown's East Side, Leone often features the ethnically diverse neighborhood in his poems, short stories, and works of creative nonfiction. Besides "Rose Street," he has co-authored "Remembering Our Rose Streets" (with Robert Calcagni) and several other non-fiction works. His poetry collections include "What Heaven Is," "Garland Days Poems," "Grace Notes" and "Counting the Ways." His poems have appeared in various journals.

A retired professor at Edinboro University and Youngstown State University, Leone continues to write poetry and songs and performs in the musical group, "The Spurs of the Moment."

PUMPKIN WALK: Mill Creek MetroParks will have a Pumpkin Walk at Twilight from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wick Recreation Area, 1861 McCollum Road, Youngstown.

MILL CREEK OPENING: MIll Creek MetroParks will celebrate the opening of the Anthony J. Fox Family Foundation Children's Garden at 11 a.m. today at Fellows Riverside Gardens. The project was included in the Mill Creek Metroparks 2025 capital improvement program and was fully funded through $3 million in philanthropic donations. The garden will provide a space for children and families to explore nature and discover the joys of horticulture.

SUPPORTING NEIGHBORS: Hubbard Christians in Action will offer a completely free community giveaway from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, at the Steiner Pavilion at Hubbard First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave., Hubbard City and Township adult residents are welcome to come and personally select up to five cleaning and/or grooming supplies that they need most for their households.

Everything is free, including laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo, toothpaste, dental floss, shaving cream and more.

Anyone in the Hubbard area who could use a little extra help restocking their home for the fall is welcome. No registration or income verification required, but bring your driver’s license or state ID to show residency. If you have questions prior to the event, contact Mary at 330-507-4239.
