WHAT: City council meeting Sept. 28
PRESENT: Reynold Paolone, Thomas Grumley, John Moliterno, James Clark, Tod Latell, Wes Steiner, Keith Schubert, Lily Martuccio and Mayor Mark Zuppo
Council:
* Heard from Zuppo about plans to dedicate a section of the viaduct to Ken David, a local Vietnam War veteran, as requested by the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission. He said the section of the viaduct is above the CSX Railroad tracks. The other section of the viaduct is dedicated to slain police officer Justin Leo.
* Heard from Grumley about the need for a full-time zoning inspector. There are two part-time zoning inspectors who review how many vacant properties are in the city.
* Heard from City Engineer Zachary Teter that $219,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission grant funds are being used for the replacement of a sanitary sewer on Churchill Road between Shannon Road and Dravis Street. The Ohio Public Works Commission provided $125,000 for the project.
* Heard from Zuppo that Glenn Holmes was officially done as safety service director on Oct. 1. He said he will make an appointment this month after taking applications. He said there is also a clerk position at the water treatment plant that needs filled because of a recent retirement.
* Announced the final farmers market for the year will be Oct. 17 at the property near the city building parking lot.
* Heard from Zuppo street lights are being replaced with LED lights because they last longer.
* Heard from Martuccio and Clark, who attended a data center meeting in McDonald. The city has a moratorium in place for data centers while information is gathered for Griard.
* Heard from Zuppo about the need for another mausoleum at the city cemetery.
* Scheduled an economic development committee meeting at 6 pm. Oct. 26.
