The Boardman Fire Department hosted an open house Saturday at its main station, Station 71, on Market Street across from the Southern Park Mall as part of National Fire Prevention Week, which runs through Oct. 10. The event featured firetrucks and other safety vehicles, fire safety demonstrations, a meet and greet with firefighters, children's activities, fire station tours, a flu shot clinic, dental van and mobile library. Ben Welch, 5, and Alex Welch, 3, both of Columbiana, wore firefighter costumes for the occasion.
