AUSTINTOWN – A man turned himself in at a local hospital after allegedly killing a family member.

Local media outlets and some social media sources state that Mark Burley, 36, of Boardman, is charged with killing his father.

The Vindicator has not been able to confirm that the victim is Burley’s father. However, the Austintown police report states that Burley did arrive at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital covered in blood about 2:30 a.m. Friday, and told staff he was responsible for a death at 5844 Yorktown Lane. Asutintown police went to that address and found a 71-year-old man dead inside the house.

The Mahoning County Auditor’s website shows that the home is owned by John P. and Barbara Burley. Mahoning County voter registration records show that John Patrick Burley of the same address was born in 1954.

The news release does not state how the victim was killed or how Burley and the victim are related, and a police source has not elaborated.

The report states that Mark Burley is in custody at the Mahoning County jail.

Online court records show that Burley is charged with one county of murder, a first-degree felony, and is scheduled to make an initial appearance before Austintown Area Court Judge Scott Hunter on Wedneday.
