Bravura Woodwind Quintet will join the W.D. Packard Concert Band for its next performance.
The group is made up of current and former music educators and features Rebecca Bickel, retired director of bands with Maplewood Local Schools, on oboe; Christine Crucci, director of bands and orchestras in Boardman Local Schools, on bassoon; Monica Meffan, retired music educator with Northwest Local Schools, on flute; Albert Colella, retired director of bands at Poland High School, on clarinet; and James Scanga, retired director of bands with Farrell (Pa.) Area Schools, on French horn.
The quintet will be featured on a George M. Cohan medley arranged by Robert Russell Bennett.
Other selections on the program, conducted by Galen S. Karriker, include Leonard Bernstein's Overture to "Candide," Franz Lehar's Velia from "Merry Widow," Frank Panella's "Mothers of Democracy" march, Richard Rodgers's score for "The Sound of Music," Aaron Copland's Waltz from "Billy the Kid," Claudio S. Grafulla's "Washington Grays" march, George Gershwin's "An American in Paris," Ferde Grofe's arrangement of "Ode to the Star-Spangled Banner" and John Philip Sousa's "U.S. Field Artillery" march.
The concert starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Admission is free, and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard trust.
