Former White House aide to speak for McGuffey series

Former White House aide Janet Weir Creighton will be the featured speaker for the next William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society's Memories of a Lifetime program.

Creighton served as deputy assistant and director of intergovernmental affairs for George W. Bush in 2008 and was heavily involved in planning and executing White House events such as diplomatic dinners.

Diplomatic dinners, hosted by the president and first lady, are important tools for America's foreign policy.

Over the years, various bone china designs and sets have been used and commissioned by the White House, for affairs of state. Creighton will display and talk about some of china settings used at those dinners.

In addition to her work at the White House, Creighton is a former Canton mayor and Stark County auditor, recorder and commissioner.

The program starts at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 at Denny’s meeting room, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for nonmembers and includes refreshments and entertainment. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.
