The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will play Stambaugh Auditorium in December with a Youngstown State University graduate as its music director.
Jeff Bush, an Apollo, Pa., native who earned his bachelor of music degree at YSU, has led the orchestra since 2024. He first played the orchestra in 2000 when it was directed by bandleader Buddy Morrow.
Bush has taught at YSU and worked with such acts as Harry Connick Jr., Count Basie Orchestra, Frankie Valli, The Temptations and The Four Tops.
According to Stambaugh Chief Business Officer Dani Dier, "Having Jeff Bush return to Youngstown to lead one of America's most iconic orchestras makes this performance especially exciting for our community. His connection to Youngstown State University and his remarkable career are something our audiences can take great pride in, and we are thrilled to welcome both Jeff and this legendary orchestra to Stambaugh."
The group carries on the legacy of one of the most celebrated orchestras of the swing era and performs such classics as "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "Marie," "Opus One" and "I'll Never Smile Again."
