Guest conductor Frank Tracz is bringing one of his former students with him for the W.D. Packard Concert Band's next performance.
Tracz, an Ohio State University alum and a frequent guest conductor with the Packard band, is a professor of music and director of bands at Kansas State University.
Joining Tracz on Sunday will be saxophone player Xan Perkins, who will be the featured soloist on Nat McIntosh's "Brooklyn."
Perkins received his bachelor of arts degree in music performance at Kansas State, and he has been a regular guest soloist with the Manhattan Municipal Band, which Tracz leads. Perkins is director of bands and instrumental studies at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Other selections on the program include Jack Stamp's "Little Apple" celebration, Ryan Nowlin's "An American Heritage," Larry Blocher's "Praises" and "Purple Sunflowers," "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," Henry Mancini's "Pie in the Face Polka," Kenneth J. Alford's "The Mad Major" march and John Philip Sousa's "National Game" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" marches.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. Sunday at the south lawn bandshell at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Admission is free, and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard trust.
