Gray Areas: Revelers can crawl, shuffle, shuttle

The Mahoning Valley is the place to be for indecisive Irish — be they full-blooded or honorary — the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day.

Can’t decide on the best location for the wearin’ of the green? Several communities have plans to let revelers shuffle or crawl to multiple spots.

Seventeen different places are part of the Downtown Youngstown St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl, which runs from noon to midnight Saturday.

Bar Crawl passes are available at three check-in locations — Penguin City Brewing Company, Avalon Downtown Pizzeria and Draught House.

Participants can get their passes stamped at each of the participating locations they visit.

Five stamps earns one entry, 10 stamps gets two entries and 15 stamps is worth three entries in a drawing featuring prizes worth more than $1,500.

Prizes include: a pair of two-day VIP passes for this year’s YLIVE concerts featuring Jason Aldean on July 10 and Eric Church on July 11 at Stambaugh Stadium; $750 cash; an overnight stay at the DoubleTree Hilton Youngstown and $50 gift cards from downtown establishments.

In addition to the check-in locations, other participating venues are: D.O.P.E. Cider House and Winery, Youngstown Flea (open until 3 p.m.), Windows on the Square (DoubleTree Bar), Casa di Canzonetta, West 34, The Federal, V2 Wine Bar & Trattoria, Twisted Roots, Downtown Circle, Imbibe Martini Bar, Ryes Craft Beer & Whiskey, Yonder, The Social and Varsity Club.

Commerce Street will be closed from Hazel Street to the end of Varsity Club’s storefront from 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday.

Parking lots on Commerce Street will be open.

Participants can register in advance through Eventbrite or in-person on Saturday at the check-in locations.

Trumbull County has three different bar crawls on Saturday, with some venues participating in more than one.

A downtown Warren-centric bar crawl starts at 6 p.m. Saturday and will provide free shuttle service to eight different venues — Urban Tap, Club Michael, Modern Methods Brewing Company, VFW, The Underground Lounge, The Horseshoe Bushwick and West and Main — with drink specials, live entertainment and other attractions planned at some venues.

The second bar crawl will have multiple shuttles running from 7 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. and transporting revelers to eight spots in Warren (Sons of Italy Lodge 2850, ITAM 30, Ohio Inn, Kracker Jacks and The Horseshoe) and Niles (Cleary’s, Sons of Italy Lodge 2874 and ITAM 39).

Several Girard and Liberty area establishments will have a Shamrock Shuttle running from noon to 10 p.m. Participants can pick up a shuttle map at any of the participating locations, and the shuttle will loop around to all 10 stops throughout the day.

Loopers can get their maps punched with the purchase of a beverage. Those who collect punches at all 10 locations will receive a free T-shirt.

Stops on the shuttle include Amen Corner, Arc Club, Bull & Bear Tavern, Chesty’s, Coaches, El Hefe, Iron Mann, Master’s, Shaker’s and Viv’s (Arc Club and Master’s are cash-only).

Lake Milton will have its third annual Shamrock Shuffle from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The shuttle bus will take celebrants to nine locatings near the lake — Anchor Inn, Castaway Craigs, Grandview Tavern, Halliday’s Winery, Lake Milton Brewery, Lake Milton Golf Club, Legion Lake Post 737, Olde Dutch Mill and Prop House.

Just remember, the shuttles may get you from place to place, but you still need to get home at the end of the night. Celebrate responsibly.
