New Music Guild plans winter concert

The New Music Guild will have its winter concert on Sunday.

The organization focuses on the performance of works by living composers and sponsors visits by guest composers and performers.

The winter concert will feature violinist Brendan Considine and pianist Karen Considine.

Brendan Considine plays with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet Western Reserve and Greenville Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as principal of Cardinal Mooney High School, and he has taught at Youngstown State University and Westminster College.

Karen Considine also plays violin and performs with the Youngstown and Greenville symphonies as well as the Warren Philharmonic and Stellare Strings. She is choir accompanist at First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard.

The concert will open with performances by New Music Guild coordinators, Gwyneth Rollin, violin, and Robert Rollin, piano. They will play Rollin’s Lyric Counterpoint on a Theme by Warshawsky, their signature piece, and other works. The Considines will play pieces by Respighi, Bartok, Stravinsky, Richard Zacharias and more, as well as several Rollin works.

The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served with the Sunday afternoon concert in honor of the Considines.
