Youngstown parade, tree lighting Friday

A full slate of activities will lead up to downtown Youngstown’s tree lighting ceremony on Friday.

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will have extended hours with free admission from 3 to 8 p.m. Santa’s Workshop will be set up on OH WOW’s third floor, and free photos with Santa Claus will be available from 3 to 5:15 p.m.

A special Youngstown Flea on Phelps will feature local vendors at the Phelps Street Gateway starting at 4 p.m. The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will have a pop-up library downtown.

The Youngstown Holiday Parade starts at 6 p.m. With support from title sponsor WesBanco, the Strike Up the Band Contest will donate $1,000 to every high school band that participates in the parade, and the top three bands will receive an additional cash prize.

The tree lighting ceremony at Central Square will follow the parade.

Commemorative mugs will be available, and downtown bars and restaurants will offer drink specials for them.
