Stambaugh hosts Glenn Miller Orchestra

Staff report

The Glenn Miller Orchestra brings its holiday show to Stambaugh Auditorium on Tuesday.

The concert will include seasonal favorites as well as the swing and jazz standards for which the orchestra is known.

American musician, arranger, composer and bandleader Glenn Miller is one of the best known names from the swing era, writing and performing such songs as “Moonlight Serenade,” “In the Mood,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Tuxedo Junction” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo.”

The current Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring worldwide ever since. Today’s orchestra is an 18-member ensemble performing many of the hits from both the original band and the Army Air Force Band, along with modern tunes arranged in the Miller style.

Music director and tenor saxophone Erik Stabnau earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastman School of Music and his master’s degree in audio arts from Syracuse University and has been with the orchestra since 2017.

Vocalist Jenny Swoish is a California State University at Long Beach graduate who was inspired by the vocal interpretations of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sara Vaughn and Dinah Washington as well as contemporary singers such as Jane Monheit and Peter Eldridge. Swoish’s latest CD of classic and contemporary jazz is “Tonight … in Dreamland.”
